It has been nearly 30 days since my first visit to the Former NDMC (National Defence Med Centre).

looking back at the 2 Sept 2016, crossing the door was kinna haunting as memories of these walls we playing back like an old repurpose 70' movies from NetFlix.
I sat and waited in a not so inviting lounge where time had stop, the clock on the wall likely broke at 5 PM ten years ago and was never repaired, the TV power cable was laying on the side.. Cable not included. No luxury here.
A clerk sitting behind her PC, obviously busy.. before making eyes contact asked me to spell my first name.. C H R I S
Note to self: "Next time that I serve a customer, I'll get up my 'derriere' and greet them with respect instead of making them feel they are disturbing me".

15 minutes later, Nathalie open the secured area and actually welcomes me into the Support to Veteran Centre. We sat, offered me coffee, didn't take all to long to get to the point, a good listener she recommended to me to continue the road to recovery. She sets up meeting with the OSI (Occupation Stress Injury). The conversation lasted nearly 2-3 hours i forget what time I came in.
Since that day, I have received one call acknowledging my condition and promised support and evaluation by medical staff after being told that clearly i should have gotten real help in 1992.. and was provided with phone numbers in case of anything. I'll be looking forward to a second encounter.
Baron Francesco Ricasoli

On Monday the 28th Sept, I had the opportunity to meet with Owner and winemaker Baron Francesco Ricasoli. We had the privilege to taste several of wines produced on the family estate. The Castello-Brolio 2010 made from a meticulous selection of the best Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes from the estate's vineyards, was absolutely wonderful.

A family tradition dating from the 12th Century, the quality and passion has been pass on to generation.

Its no surprise that Baron Francesco Ricasoli spoke eloquently while addressing the amateurs present in French, English and sometimes adding an exclamation of Italian.

I took this unique occasion to have Baron Ricasoli to sign this awesome 2010 Castello-Brolio.

During the province of Quebec rural colonisation in the 1920-30, the church had a major say in the province what name would villages and towns be called.. therefore loads of towns, have Saints name after them. I guess eventually they ran out of Saints, then turn and to looked for names of important people of France, such as Malartic, a French Admiral of the 1700' thus the town where I grew up in North West of the province of Quebec was named after him.
Serving the armies of the Kings of France, this Admiral fought against the English on the many seas of the world, showing special bravery in 1756 during the battle of Quebec. in 1792, defended L'ile de France, called today ile Maurice. Where did I discovered Malartic: Back in the town of Malartic, Quebec, in the late 60, my father Normand Coulombe, as an active member of the community and local politician had the opportunity to meet with a MLA that went to France on a commercial mission, had Dinner with the President of France, and what did they served at that Dinner... Over the years the wine has become extremely popular in Canada and I have had the opportunity to taste both the red and the white from Malartic-Lagravière. One of my best souvenir was the Malartic-Lagravière1966 that I took back home when i was serving in Germany with the Canadian Forces in the 80.

Hi wine friends,

I am patiently waiting for a Canadian friend of mine to return from France with a bottle of 1958 Chateau Malartic-Lagravière. (my birth year) With the help of Maxime Varcelice at Comptoir des Millésimes located in North of France, just outside of Lille, we located this little gem. I have been looking for a Chateau Malartic-Lagravière 1958 for several years now and finally located one. It should arrive on this side of the world in the next few days.
So to celebrate the event, i will dedicate my next blogs to the history of Chateau Malartic-Lagraviere and I will spend some time explaining my interest in this particular wine. I will explore with you the interesting Wine Region of Bordeaux with a Pessac-Léognan angle.
I received my Fortissimo 2011 release from La Stella yesterday morning. It goes without saying that only eleven bottle would remain unopened by the end of the meal... Boeuf Bourguignon a l'orange. Idea from Jamie Oliver.

Located in Osoyoos, BC, La Stella Winery is on the west side of the river. La Stella wines have become my favorite Canadian Wine.. Very close second: Le Vieux Pin. Last September we had the pleasure to taste several of their wines. The Domaine and the architecture makes you feel that you are walking into Northern Italy.

The rows of Merlot were adjacent to the main building and Alex from La Stella, pointed out from the window where the wine that we were tasting came from. I felt the passion there let me tell you. Later on we walked between the rows where at 16:00pm, the warm sun was still hitting the 'Terroir'... Humidity, heat, sun, grapes.. you got yourself a perfect combo.
I may have tasted one or two grapes of Merlot..

Back to Fortissimo, I decanted the wine and had it oxygen itself for a good hour before tasting. La Stella recommend to decant for sediments as the wine is unfiltered. There was a bit of sediments remaining in the bottle, but nothing dramatic.

The tasting:

Deep red in colour, the legs on the glass are very present. Rolling the glass, i noted the wine follows the glass like a red blanket.

1st nose: Mineral, Dark Berries, light scent of vanilla, alcool is very present
2nd nose: Cassis, fruits very present, mineral, spices

Attack: Tanin and acid are present very well balanced, feeling of smoothness, vanilla, lasting 30 sec+
90 minutes later, more vanilla taste and very smooth, acidity had disappeared. This is a fun wine to drink.

Chris on mojo rating: 93+
During the warm month of September, I had the opportunity to join a group of wine enthusiast and head south in British Columbia to visit several wineries of the Okanagan region. Playing golf in the morning and tasting wine in the afternoon was a great way to visit this wonderful region. a discovery for me as I had never travelled south BC before.
We had organized several tours for our Okanagan long week end but i have to admit, Le Vieux Pins and La Stella wineries made our trip memorable. Mike and Kam at Le Vieux Pin really did a superb job hosting us. Same goes to Alex from La Stella who welcomed us the day after with open arms and prepared a special event for our group.

During our visit at Le Vieux Pin, Michael gave me a tour of the estate and I had a chat with him at the end of the tour where he gave me a candid interview on camera. for our next trip to the Okanagan, I am looking forward to speak to a Severine, winemaker from the Old World and now at Le Vieux Pin.

Hi all,

Happy New Year and I happy to publish this new story from Cozumel, Mexico. I had the opportunity during my vacation in Cozumel to interview Benny Campos, Cozumel PGA Golf Professional and General manager. Benny gave me a tour of the facility. From the Golf course to the Proshop, this is a Top notch Golf facility. I played the course and it is one that requires course management... fairways are tight and any error and its Jungle time....
Update - Le Vieux Pin - Equinoxe Syrah 2009

During our graduation event at the Amicale des Sommeliers du QC, Section Outaouais, I had the pleasure to share with my friends a bottle of Equinoxe Syrah 2009. All members and the leading Chevaliers were absolutely delighted of the tasting. We had the wine in a carafe for a good 90 minutes before tasting.
Reddish tint on the legs when rolling the wine in the glass, smell of berries and wood, taste of dark berries, leather, smooth and very well balance and a lasting taste in mouth. Simply magnificent were the comments from the gallery of experts.

I have to mention that during the evening, we were given a very interesting lecture from the regional rep of Agropur who provided a wide selection of delicate cheese for the evening.
As I am writing these lines this morning, I have just received am email from Le Vieux Pin and the are releasing a new Cab/Syrah "Retouche" naturally I have Jumped on that offer.
That was recommended by my man 'Kam Kamrani at Le Vieux Pin.
- We found a little (very little) Tingling on the tongue from the get go, I like that refreshment.. ;-)

- Taste of Fruits and wild Berries jumps at you,

- Med Dry, the taste stays in for a good minute, simply awesome,

- Red light touch of ruby,

- At the second taste 5 minutes later, a delicate smoky taste seems do develop, I knew that this wine was only getting better. (by now, over one hour had past since i cracked the seal, and this baby was getting better, not loosing its taste but in full evolution).

-Taste and smell of Dark chocolate, and the Berries tastes from earlier and a hint of Leather.
After following on Tweeter Ronald Georges from Montreal Radio-Canada :@millesime I certainly got interested at finding what was the big deal with Shiraz Equinox 2009 from Le Vieux Pin Winery in B-C Canada. GO Check it out for yourself.
I got online last night and a shipment of the wine is on its way home. That about all I can say about it for now. I will taste it when it arrives in Gatineau . I had the chance to speak with Kam Kamrani from the winery while on the phone and arranging for the shipment. Really friendly folks, dedicated to their products. He understood my disappointment that they are all out of 750 Ml so I will have to turn myself to the 1/2 bottles. I omitted to ask if it Equinox Shiraz was bottles in Magnum.
I have kept this Blog alive for a couple years now so that the world sees thru my eyes what I've been Shooting, drinking, visiting and Drinking as far as Red wine goes.

Time to update, not that I have been lazy.. but simply been AFK. The Golf season is winding down, and my next week of golfing will have to wait for the end of December at Cozumel G&C. I have to say that with the help of my Coach Mike Kennedy at Hylands Golf Club in Ottawa, I have been able to progress to my old new me. I changed from Taylor Made to 910 D2 Driver and 910F to replace my 3 wood. It has a more suitable shaft for me i guess as I noticed dramatic improvements in control after the second round.
The Irons are now: AP1 - 712 Steel Reg shaft. Not having range time with these irons made it a little difficult to get used to during the first round.

On the Wine scene, I have drank a few new Barolo and Brunello and the latest on is from Frattotria dei Barbi Reserve was simply great. I have procured 2 more bottles that are on their way from Montréal, QC, Canada. I intend to take notes for you on the next Blog.
Just returned from Lake Placid this week. As it was my first time on the boards in 4 years i prefered not to get the MOJO kit on the slopes for safety reasons. We soon discovered that the runs were pretty icy and WhiteFace was more like IceFace. One of our fellow skier on the group got pretty banged up and thanks to Whiteface Ski Patrol, she was taken rapidly to a local clinic.. she is getting better now ;-)
As usual, It started to dump huge quantity of snow on the day of departure.. Whiteface.. I will return..

I was recently interviewed by former CTV Montréal News reporter and Communication expert, Joe Singerman. I shared with him my experience on the MOJO and how I use it.

Joe is a frequent collaborator of 'Home Technology Montreal' Blog:
But you need them no matter what. I make a couple before going out on location shoots

When shooting video outside on location, you have to deal with Wind hitting the RF mic. After loosing a couple of Wind socks during a field exercise, I can up with a temporary solution, one that i'd like to share with you.

You'll need:
1. Matt Knife
2. Rubber bands (1 or 2 depending)
3. Foam from Pelican Case or equivalent (1 Inch x 1 Inch square, 1 Inch thick)

Make incision from the bottom to the middle of the cut foam, Wrap the foam around the Mic, Secure the temp Wind sock with Robber Band. Leave room for the Lapel Clip. Use a pair of scissors to round up the extra foam. I used a Sharpie Black Permanent and run it against the rubber bands to make the yellow go away.
I am working on getting a Temporary Lapel Clip build from Gator clip, paper clip etc, will post soon.

We just got our new Rode X/Y On Camera Mics and the Hot-shoe has a problem where we'll need to take a file to it in order to make it fit on the Owle Photo:*a. I have tried unsuccessfully to fit the Mic on my own Canon 5D MkII and as well on a Nikon D-7000. It has to do with the way the Hot-shoe was made on the Microphone Photo: *b
